The Hottest Nominees for Golden Globes 2020 》

As the year comes to a finish, it’s official, the Golden Globes nominees are out, and the competition is fiercer than ever. While the lineup still needs to work on representation in some cases, for the most part there are some stellar Golden Globe 2020 nominations. Here are some of our predictions (and who we’re secretly rooting for). Who will take home that coveted award in their category?

Best Motion Picture — Drama

There are several amazing contenders for Best Drama, and it’s a tricky tie between The Irishman and Joker. Marriage Story was a poignant, indie-style flick from the talented man who brought us The Squid and the whale, but the other two contenders are behemoths in terms of plot, writing, and cast. These two films are also nominated for Best Director – Motion Picture, and we thing the Scorsese flick just might have that one in the bag.

Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy

Many are rooting for the Elton John bio-pic Rocketman, while others are more skeptical about choices like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. However, we know Quentin Tarantino to be a Golden Globe top choice, so it’s up in the air. Our favorite pick would have to be Dolemite Is My Name, a hilarious Eddie Murphy comeback (based on a wild true story) that had us cackling all the way through the end.

Best Television Series — Drama

We know several obsessed fans when it comes to The Crown, especially anyone who closely follows the royal family. However, the cat and mouse female espionage show that is Killing Eve deserves a definite win. It would certainly put a smile on every feminist’s face as we come into the new year. Big Little Lies is also strong on the female mystery forefront and with such a heavy hitter cast list, this show is a strong contender as well.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Movie

While Catch 22 appeals to our teenage nostalgia (and a super cute Christopher Abbot), Sacha Baron Cohen’s performance in The Spy was breathtaking. Anyone who might have doubted the Borat creator’s non-comedic chops has their foot in their mouth right about now. Sam Rockwell in Fosse/Verdon is also a possibility, as this actor always knocks it out of the park.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Movie

This is our moment for Girl power to shine, and we’re so proud that “Unbelievable” garnered two nominations in these category. Both Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever depict a detective and sexual assault victim who are after the same predatory and evil abuser. There’s a big lack of female detective series, especially surrounding sensitive topics like this. Joey King also performed a touching but complicated role of Gypsy in the tragic Gypsy and DeeDee tale of Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

Best Motion Picture — Animated

Your inner child will scream for all of these fabulous nominees to garner a win, and we think Toy Story 4 and The Lion King sit neck to neck about Frozen II and the latest How To Train Your Dragon flick. Honestly, who can compete with reinvented and polished childhood classics that will be passed on generation through generation?

Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Series, Limited Series, or TV Movie

Alan Arkin stole our hearts in The Kominsky Method, but Andrew Scott had us grabbing our guts in Fleabag, the “Hot Priest” in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s series. Your funny crush or your adorable grandpa? It’s too hard to pick! Other solid nominations include Henry Winkler in Barry and the ever talented Stellan Skarsgard in Chernobyl.

Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited Series, or TV Movie

Patricia Arquette’s portrayal of DeeDee in The Act might not have been loveable, but the aim was to depict a vile and complex woman rooted in mental instability. Merritt Wever’s detective partner in “Unbelievable” is another fantastic choice, playing a somber and thoughtful character. Then again, both of these women are up against powerhouse Meryl Streep, who most of these award shows find it difficult to say no to.

Best Score for a Motion Picture

With Beyoncé leading the charge in her rendition of “Spirit” for the Lion King, Frozen II and Cats will have a tough time being the overachievers in their category this year. The whole Lion King soundtrack was a popular win for the public when it first came out, and we don’t doubt that the family picture will hit the sweet spot in more than a few categories across the entire Golden Globes award show.

Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture

This is the only nomination that Hustlers managed to get at the golden Globes, and we wanted to tell Jennifer Lopez that sweetie, we’re so proud of you for getting an empowered stripper movie with Cardi B all the way to the critics. It might not be the most realistic win of the year, but with the power of J.Lo, we can do anything. We also pray to the goddesses and keep our fingers crossed that Margot Robbie in Bombshell will get some recognition for the epic Fox News takedown that it is.
